what has happened?

Nowadays, people are eager to posting and updating status about the issues happened in Malaysia. It attracts the readers to share ideas, thoughts and debate for showing public interest.
There is one case happened in year 2009, where it was involved this online journalism to create racism and unhappiness among Malaysian. The case first started when Attorney-General announced that a death of a suspect in police custody was classified as murder.
It became controversy when the suspect, Gopal, 22, been told died five days after being arrested by police at Subang Jaya in the same year. Many people especially his family claim that Gopal was tortured while he was investigated by the police.
This case set of the emotional and anger responses by Indian community. They claimed that Gopal was tortured because of the discrimination and racism. To prove that as true, the family sent the memorandum to Inspector-General for demanding a second autopsy while some protesters gathered and holding up banners.
Meanwhile, the photos of Gopal’s dead body showed bruises and cuts been distributed over the Internet. This situation has increased emotional thoughts towards was happened.
For your information, the suspect was a car thief that involved in many cases of stolen luxurious car. He is also a suspect of many cases of rape, however, his victims are unwilling to come forward and make a police report.
He had led the police to the location where the stolen cars were secretly kept. However, that was the only evidence that he showed to the police. Gopal failed to tell other evidences to the investigative police officers. The evidence showed that he was not alone. There is a syndicate behind Gopal as well.
For me, the suspect been torturing by police officers during his custody is necessary. It is because, there is a way where the suspect will told the information needed by the police. The police has a right to do so as well as the police followed the ethics and rules.
The case of Gopal, we can’t blindly blame the police only. During his time in cell, there are another five others gangsters been prisoned together with him. There is possibility that, Gopal and another five gangsters have a fight in the cell.
I totally agreed that what is police officers do while investigate the suspect and tortured them are basic by only to threaten suspect. That is the way to make the suspect agreed to share the information.

cyber-balkanisation

Internet become a part of our daily life. Cyber-balkanisation as a new age form of group through new media; Internet. Evolution of cyber-balkanisation is a form of more and more niche and focused groups of people through any kind of social networking platform on the Internet.
A citizen of journalism is a part of cyber-balkanisation. He acted as a journalist, posted article or updating status that can give harm towards the society and the government.
There are many cases related to cyber-balkanisation in Malaysia. The latest case was involved a Malaysian couple who upload a picture of Ramadan controversial greeting (bak kut teh) on Facebook page. Alvin Tan, 25 and Vivian Lee 24, pleaded not guilty to uploading and publishing a seditious publication. Both of them were charged under subsection 4 (1) (c) of the Sedition Act 1948 which punishable under subsection 4 (1) of the same act.

Other than that, cyber-balkanisation lead to increasing of social problem. The Internet gives information that what they want. Just key in a word then the information will pop-ups by million articles related to that word. Just say what kind of info that you want to read or see, you can get it in just one click. For instance, pornography or fire arm such as gun and bomb. all you can do is access through the Internet.
Try to imagine, majority of visitors are teenagers age 7 to 25 year old. They are the generation whom eager to know or search something new related to their interest in the website. Moreover, a website has a very own customization towards what they want according to their interest.
The government should more focus and alert to what is happening in cyber world. The government should react as same as countries such as Iran and China which blocked a website; Google to be access by their people. Even though it is not a good solution but at least they are trying and can minimize the problem from been too aggressive.

example of updating status on Facebook to create controversy
Politic in Malaysia also been runoff by cyber-balkanisation. It gives chaos to the country especially towards society. For example, the case of Adam Adli, a student who first start his seditious statement against the government. The action was he freely updated status after his friend been beaten by policemen during the assembly at Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Nevertheless, his friend was not really dying as what he stated on his Twitter’s account.
From the view, we can conclude that new media gives power to the users to attract visitors to believe and react. The Internet is not been used as what the users want. People should not simply believe on what been published in the Internet. Try to gain knowledge and added information by investigate and make some small research towards to the information.

implication of online journalism

Rapid growths on citizen journalism nowadays become worst day by day. What is mean by citizen journalism is anyone in the world trying to pull out them by posting video or own opinion to social networking or any website or weblogs towards what happen around them.
As we can see here, they does not realize that by doing all kinds of activities can lead to implication of online journalism itself.  Journalism in Malaysia is controlled by the ruling party by ethic and rules that need to be followed by the journalists. However, for citizen journalist or so called the public like to post video to attract people condemn and critics to the action taken by people involved in that video.
Based on the video of car accident, both of the Chinese men should take it as an accident and settle it without take any serious action towards each other. Nevertheless, they show some low morality to surrounding and fight without think the impacts or even try to show some good behaviors. It happen in the highways on the massive jammed done by them. People all around does not took any action such as called the police or try to stop the fight. The situation shown in the video that third party posted it on the social networking called YouTube.
This citizen journalism gives huge implication towards online journalism by experts. People simply post anything they want to shows stereotyping on what is happen. In future, third party which is the viewer is takes the advantage by comment negatively and lead to damaging the reputation of online journalism.
Online journalism is the profession that gives benefits to the public whom like to access the internet for looking the truth and information delivered by the journalists. And because of the activities done by the citizen journalism, it cover up the world of online journalism. People are not easily trust the news and information given by the experts anymore. it will affect the reputation of the journalists and the experts that seriously involved in online journalism that make it as their profession.
